What I’ve Done Since Becoming Business Manager
Grievances and Arbitrations
The success of Local 47 in recent years is attributed to the exceptional teamwork of its Shop Stewards, Business Representatives, and Legal Team. Through our combined expertise and dedication, we have secured well over $1,000,000 in grievance and arbitration victories across all contracts, those wins have gone directly into the pockets of our members. Our proficiency in addressing complex labor issues has ensured fair treatment and proper compensation for Local 47 members. Recognizing that one person cannot accomplish these feats alone, the team's collaborative efforts have made a substantial impact on the rights and interests of the union's members, leading to a stronger and more effective Local 47.
Member Death Benefits
One of the accomplishments I am most proud of at Local 47 is the implementation of increasing our Death Benefit Program, which comes at no additional cost to our members. We recognize that our members work tirelessly for their families, and in the unfortunate event of an untimely death, it is crucial to ensure that their loved ones are taken care of financially.
To address this need, we established the increase to the Death Benefit Program which provides various levels of financial support depending on the circumstances. In the case of an accidental death of a member, the program will pay out $10,000. If the death occurs while the member is on the job, the payout increases to $20,000. Furthermore, this important benefit extends to our members' spouses and children under the age of 17, offering a payout of $1,000 in the event of their passing.
By offering this comprehensive Death Benefit Program at no extra cost, we at Local 47 demonstrate our unwavering commitment to the welfare of our members and their families, ensuring that they have peace of mind during difficult times.
Money Given to Members
Since becoming Business Manager, my primary focus has been supporting our members and their families during difficult times. We've already provided over $80,000 in aid, exemplifying our dedication to fostering a tight-knit community where members can rely on one another. This commitment to caring for each other is essential to our organization's strength and promotes a sense of unity, ensuring that we are there for each other when it matters most.
Financial Audit
Since assuming the role of business manager, we have undertaken a comprehensive analysis of our internal financial operations to identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements. Our primary objective has been to find ways to reduce expenses without negatively impacting the quality of service and support we provide to our valued membership.
To achieve this goal, we have scrutinized various aspects of our finances, including billing processes and internal resource allocation. Through this process, we have identified opportunities to optimize our spending, such as switching vendors that we have relied on for years in order to obtain more competitive pricing. These changes have allowed us to reallocate resources to areas that directly benefit our members.
Moving forward, we are dedicated to continually monitoring and assessing our financial practices, ensuring that we maintain a strong focus on fiscal responsibility and efficient resource management. This ongoing commitment will enable us to make well-informed decisions and invest wisely in the best interests of our members and the overall organization.
Business Manager Minute on YouTube
As someone who deeply values communication with my fellow union members, I am always looking for ways to strengthen our connections and make it easier for everyone to access important information from the hall. I understand the significance of reaching our brothers and sisters where they are and ensuring their voices are heard.
Although I would love to be present at every union meeting, it is simply impossible to do so. However, I am committed to finding alternative solutions to overcome this challenge. That's why I decided to create the "Business Manager Minute" on YouTube. This initiative allows me to share vital updates and messages directly with you, our valued members.
By utilizing the YouTube platform, I can provide timely and accessible content that keeps our union community informed and engaged. The "Business Manager Minute" aims to promote transparency, foster a sense of unity, and ensure that everyone has access to the latest news and decisions from the hall.
In the spirit of continuous growth and improvement, I am eager to explore new ways to enhance our communication channels and make information even more accessible for all members. My commitment to the union and its members remains unwavering, and I look forward to further strengthening our bonds through open and effective communication.
High Voltage Tree Trimmer Bill - SB247
California Bill SB247 is a significant legislative achievement for High Voltage Tree Trimmers across the state. The bill, supported by a strong partnership between Local 1245, 465, and 659, establishes comprehensive pay and benefits requirements also leading to training programs for workers in the industry. This collaboration has successfully secured funding from the state, ensuring that prevailing wages are provided for Tree Trimmers. As a result, these professionals have seen an average wage increase of $20plus per hour towards wages and benefits packages when passed. This milestone demonstrates the power of collective action and collaboration in advocating for fair compensation and improved working conditions for skilled laborers in California.
