My Vision for the Future
Communication
I understand the importance of effective communication between the union and its members. With the world constantly evolving and new technologies emerging, it is crucial that we find new ways to stay connected and informed. I am always looking for that next best way to communicate as explore options.
I truly believe that this will be the best way to notify our members of vital information, such as changes at the hall, union meeting dates and times, upcoming events, and even to encourage voting and promote member engagement. With the ability to receive text messages directly to our cell phones, we will be able to better inform and connect with our members even when we are on the go.
By embracing new technologies and finding innovative ways to communicate, we will be able to better serve our members and ensure that they are always up-to-date with the latest news and information. I am excited to see how this new texting service will enhance the communication between the union and its members, and I look forward to staying connected with my fellow Local 47 brothers and sisters.
Member Engagement
As a proud member of Local 47, I am eager to welcome the younger generation into our trades and help them understand the importance and value of being a part of a labor union. Over the next few years, my primary goal is to increase member engagement and educate our new members on the significance of being actively involved in our union.
Membership engagement is the backbone of any strong labor union. It is through the active participation of our members that we can protect our rights, negotiate better working conditions, and ensure fair wages. When our members are engaged and informed, we become a force to be reckoned with, capable of making real, lasting changes that benefit us all.
As we bring in younger members, it's crucial that we pass on our knowledge and experience, showing them the power of solidarity and the benefits of working together. This new generation will be the future leaders of our union, and it's our responsibility to equip them with the skills and understanding necessary to continue the legacy of Local 47.
By fostering a sense of community and encouraging open communication, we can create an environment in which every member feels valued and heard. This will empower our younger members to take on leadership roles, share their ideas, and contribute to the ongoing success of our union. As a result, our union will grow stronger and more resilient, ready to face whatever challenges come our way.
I am committed to increasing member engagement within Local 47 and educating our younger members about the importance of being actively involved in our union. By working together and sharing our collective knowledge and experience, we can build a stronger, more effective labor union that benefits all of us, both now and in the future.
Internal Audit of Finances
At Local 47, we recognize the importance of maintaining a strong financial foundation to support our mission and serve our valued members. As such, we are committed to continuously examining our financial practices and seeking opportunities to save and optimize our resources.
Our goal is not only to identify cost-saving measures but also to invest in our membership by giving back and making strategic decisions that enhance the member experience. We believe that a financially stable organization can better serve its members and foster a sense of community and growth.
As we move forward, we pledge to maintain a diligent and proactive approach to financial management, ensuring that our decisions align with both our short-term objectives and long-term vision. By doing so, we can continue to provide exceptional support and value to our members, reinforcing our position as a trusted and responsible organization.
Safety
As a proud member of Local 47, a labor union dedicated to protecting the interests of all workers, my top priority is the safety of our brothers and sisters. I am committed to working closely with our employers to ensure the well-being of everyone involved.
One of my primary goals is to encourage employers to implement or continue with the "Code of Excellence," a comprehensive set of guidelines designed to create a culture of safety and responsibility in the workplace. By adopting these principles, employers can demonstrate their commitment to putting employee safety first and foremost, above all other considerations.
I firmly believe that collaboration between unions and employers is crucial for creating a safe and productive work environment. It is my hope that we can work together to make the "Code of Excellence" a reality, promoting the welfare of our members and fostering a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation.
Member Support Services
Over the past few years, mental health has increasingly become a significant concern. In response to this growing issue, I have dedicated the last six months to developing an in-depth program called "Member Support Services." Scheduled for rollout in mid-summer, this program aims to provide a comprehensive support system for our union members and their brothers and sisters.
In mid-May, I will be attending a "critical incident training" to further enhance my skills in providing support during challenging situations. Following this training, I plan to share my knowledge with other members so they, too, can become reliable sources of support in the field.
Our "Member Support Services" program will address various issues such as alcohol and substance abuse, member-to-member support, mentorship, and mental health outreach. The goal is to remind our members that they are not alone; they have a strong support network in their union and with their brothers and sisters. We are committed to fostering a compassionate and understanding environment, ensuring that no one is left to struggle on their own.
Women’s Committee
I am excited to announce the launch of our Women's Committee, that will be by the sister for the sisters. In 2022, we made history by sending 10 sisters from Local 47 to the Women's Conference for the very first time. This was a significant milestone for us, and it marks the beginning of a new chapter in our efforts to support and empower women in the workforce.
The importance of women being represented by labor unions cannot be overstated. Historically, women have faced a myriad of challenges in the workplace, such as pay disparity, lack of representation in leadership roles, and discrimination. Labor unions provide a powerful platform for addressing these issues and advocating for policies that promote equal opportunities, fair wages, and safe working conditions for all.
By supporting women who are already in labor unions, we are fostering a sense of camaraderie and solidarity that is essential for effective collective action. Women who feel supported by their peers and have access to resources tailored to their unique needs are going to be successful in their careers and to become advocates for other women in the workforce.
Our Women's Committee aims to be a driving force in helping more women enter trades and positions represented by labor unions. We are committed to providing mentorship, networking opportunities, and educational resources to ensure that women have the tools they need to thrive in their chosen fields.
I am incredibly eager to witness the positive impact this committee will have on our community, and I am confident that, together, we will help pave the way for a brighter future for women at Local 47
Education
As a passionate advocate for education, I firmly believe that the pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong endeavor, and continuous education is an essential component of personal and professional growth. In today's rapidly evolving world, keeping up to date with the ever-changing labor laws is not only necessary but also imperative to ensure fair and just treatment of workers.
As the Business Manager of Local 47, I recognize the immense responsibility I carry in safeguarding the interests of our members. In doing so, I must be well-informed about the latest labor laws, policies that affect our members, and any potential changes that may impact their rights and well-being. Understanding the intricacies of these laws and policies enables me to better advocate for our members and helps me to engage in more effective negotiation and conflict resolution.
Moreover, it is crucial to stay current on negotiation training and organizing strategies. As labor laws and workplace policies evolve, so too must our approach to defending the rights and interests of our members. By staying informed about the latest negotiation techniques and organizing tactics, I can better support our members and empower them to create positive change in their workplaces.
In conclusion, I am committed to the ongoing pursuit of knowledge and the importance of continuous education for not only myself, but for all of our staff at Local . I understand that staying up to date on labor laws, policies, negotiation training, and organizing strategies is vital for ensuring the welfare of our members and fostering a fair and just work environment. I pledge to remain vigilant in my quest for knowledge and to utilize that knowledge in the service of those I represent.
