About Me
My name is Colin Lavin, and I am running for Business Manager/Financial Secretary of IBEW Local 47. My journey with the IBEW began in 1995 as an un-indentured apprentice and eventually earning my Journeyman Wireman status 2001, which eventually led to me being hired at Local 47 in 2005 as an Organizer/Membership Development Representative. In this role, my main focus was to grow our union and continue building our strength in numbers.
As I delved deeper into my work, I discovered my true passion was at the bargaining table, where I could directly advocate for our members. I concentrated on issues such as wages, hours, working conditions, and labor law, ensuring that our members' needs were addressed and protected.
My dedication to our union and its members led me to become the Assistant Business Manager and later the Sr. Assistant Business Manager. In these positions, I was able to share my knowledge of labor law and negotiation strategies with Local 47's staff, providing support for their assignments and helping to manage the day-to-day operations of the business offices.
In 2021, I took on the role of Business Manager, where my responsibilities expanded to focus on finances, membership development and support, training programs, JATC initiatives, and fostering stronger relationships with our employers. These efforts have contributed to better working conditions and stronger contracts that directly benefit our brothers and sisters within Local 47.
As I run for the position of Business Manager/Financial Secretary, I am committed to leveraging my extensive experience and knowledge to continue serving the best interests of IBEW Local 47's members. My dedication to financial responsibility, membership growth, and the development of training programs will ensure the union's continued success and the prosperity of our members. I am proud of the work I've done so far, and I am eager to continue fighting for our brothers and sisters within the IBEW.
